What is the "Good" in Romans 8:28?

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:28-29
"Romans 8:28...is an oft quoted verse. But we often fail to note that the following verse helps us understand what the 'good' of verse 28 is. Verse 29 begins with the word for, indicating that it is a continuation and amplification of the thought of verse 28. The good that God works for in our lives is conformity to the likeness of His Son. It is not necessarily comfort or happiness but conformity to Christ in ever-increasing measure in this life and in its fullness in eternity."
-Jerry Bridges, quoted in Trusting God (Navpress, 2008), p. 126.
Thank you, Lord; that's what we really want anyway!

Christ has worked painful past experiences in my life for "good"... I have been able to draw closer to Him, even when I didn't (and sometimes still don't) completely understand, but just knowing that He is good and faithful and merciful, I am able to comform to His image a little more each day; though I know that I will never be totally comformed to His image while in this body, but I trust Him and welcome all the stuff in my life to be used for "good" accocording to His purpose, for He knew me before I was born and everything in my life. Praise be to the King!
